Republicans are often belittled as the stupid party--and in many cases, they are--but if this letter to the editor from a "proud democrat" is any indicator, the Democrats have their fair share of stupid:

Gulf Coast Gun Forum

For those who can't read the print in the image above, here is the text of the letter:
Beaufort, N.C.

Jan. 17, 2013

TO THE EDITOR:

Republicans and "so-called" conservatives are at it again. They are claiming that the Constitution gives people the right to have guns without the permission of the government. If that were true, then how could New York and Chicago have laws against it?

We Democrats are sick and tired of Republicans constantly using the Constitution to cover up their true plans, which are to make us all afraid of everyone else. Our great president came from a civilized part of the country where there is strict gun control, and he is only trying to bring the benefits of that more modern way of living to the rest of us. I don't know the exact statistics, but I'm quite certain that Chicago is a lot safer that Morehead City, when it comes to gun violence.

But do Republicans and conservatives listen to the voice of reason? No, of course not. All they want to do is whine and complain about how gun control and wealth redistribution violate the Constitution, as if the Constitution were all that great, anyway. There are a lot of things that need to be changed about the Constitution, I'd say, and President Obama needs to change it.
So far, this letter is your typical anti-gun, anti-Republican, pro-Obama screed. Nothing exceptionally out of the ordinary--until you get to the next paragraph (emphasis mine):
The Republicans are just trying to stand in the way, because the president is black. They even dared to question whether he was born in this country. I think all this demonstrates that the Constitution needs to be amended when it comes to the qualifications for being president. Right now, it says that a person has to be 35 years old and be a natural born citizen. Well, that is obviously unfair because there are a great many otherwise qualified people who cannot run for president because their mothers had to have a C-section.  But because the Constitution was written a hundred years ago, nobody even thought of the discrimination that would result from a doctor having to deliver a baby in this unnatural way. Now that we Democrats are in control of the government, that's just one more thing we should change in our drive to make life fair.

Please withhold my name because I don't want to get crank calls.

PROUD TO BE A DEMOCRAT
If you require me to explain to you everything wrong in that paragraph, chances are you probably need to go back to school--preschool that is!

I feel dumber having read that. I may have even lost a few brain cells. I'm going to have to read some Ludwig Von Mises and Murray Rothbard in order to regain my intelligence. I hope I still remember how to read!

Pretty sure that's a 'Moby' - someone pretending to be what they are not.

Too full of tropes and stereotypes to be real; fails the smell test.

And I'm a libertarian. LOL

Having said that, what do you think to Rothbard's shift in the 60s toward the New Left, in what has become known as Left Libertarianism or Left-Rothbardianism?

Roderick Long here makes an interesting point in his Rothbard Memorial Lecture of 2006: [link]

So other liberals aren't liberals? The word liberal appears to mean all things to all people: in Europe for instance it usually refers to any supporter of the free market, right or left.

Exactly. The term is subjective. So unless we can agree upon a definition, there is no point discussing it.

Were I still a somewhat left leaning or at least favoring independant/libertarian, I would be bowled over by this, but I have been picking up on a seam..... growing as I watch, of retarted behavior and rhetoric from the left. At least there was a certain syllogistic sense to the "female body can deflect conception in the case of rape" statement"..... This is and should be worthy of Stewart, Colbert and Maher mocking!!!!
If any I am betting Stewart will have a go at this....

Well, it certainly sounds that way. Though considering how Democrats voted for Obama twice, even after proving the first time around that his policies are no different, if not worse, than Bush's, this definitely reflects their intelligence on the matter.

But the liberals that aren't jaded just want to believe that all they have to do is to try to get along with the Republicans and someday in the land of milk and ponies we will all eat carrot cake together.

Its the independents that swing the elections, and, when I say independents that includes the splinter groups made up of various bias bases of immigrants, legal or otherwise. They really watch that tennis ball of political opinion as it goes back and forth.

They do have the basis in our short term history to know that it was small business men in California that originally convinced their representatives to look the other way in order to allow the farm industries out there to be able to keep their prices down. There is nothing like a cheap illegal to work for crap wages in even crappier conditions(as far as farmers used to say).

Could it be that this was submitted to the paper just to make Dems look bad? Sure, I'd not put it past some Conservatives out there to do that.

Could it be that some members of the New Left really are just that stupid? Sure, I'd not doubt that some of the New Left garbage people buy into would produce that.

...if I were a betting man, I'd say the odds are rather 50/50 on that.

Ha ha..but yeah, I think that could be a rip from a woman that called into a radio show about the same thing. Her political affiliation was unknown to me though.

I think what amuses me the most about this, is that a lot of liberals have been known to think of themselves at the " intellectuals " and think that members of other parties were not quite as bright or educated as those on the far left.

Man proves that his policies are no different, if not worse, than Bush's the first time around, and the people who threatened to leave the country if Bush became president again now voted for the man continuing his policies. You can't explain that level of doublethink!

Reminds me of when I heard someone on the news say that Constitution the government is required to provide food and shelter to protestors...

I swear, when I get older, if I can, I'll become a state senator or representative and try to get a bill passed that requires all high schools to teach an unedited Constitution, because this just shows that Democrats have absolutely no understanding of the Constitution, and those that do deliberately try to go against it.
