“In the age of information, ignorance is a choice.” - Donny Miller.

Recently, Medium published what is perhaps the worst thing that has ever been published on their website — if not in the history of written language! — in the form of “The Kids are Socialists Because Capitalism is Dickslapping the Planet.”

If you’re fortunate enough not to have heard of its author, Holly Wood, she is allegedly a PhD in sociology from Harvard, yet her inane, incoherent ramblings read like something written by a first semester college freshmen who was recently taught what “late stage capitalism” is by her radical professor.

Taking a cursory glance of her Twitter account, one would be forgiven to assume that she was a Poe, perhaps the internet troll persona of a Republican representative to caricaturize the far-left. Unfortunately, judging by her 19 thousand followers, her beliefs are sincere and her followers are unironic.

Holly Wood is the type of far-left radical who unironically identifies as a “socialist” for no other reason than because she claims to care about the poor, and yet if asked how her socialist policies would actually help the poor, let alone be realistically implemented, she would, at best, scream, “go educate yourself!”, or, at worst, block you.

That seems to be the biggest problem with radical ideologues such as herself: not only do they lack the intellectual honesty to back up any of their claims with evidence, they also exhibit intellectual cowardice in that they will immediately block anyone who dares to ask, “citation needed.”

For example, another “think” piece of hers, “Jesus Died for a 15% Corporate Tax Rate”, asserts within its very title that America only taxes corporations by a measly 15 percent, when the actual corporate tax rate is set much higher at 35 percent — making it one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world. (In contrast, “socialist” countries such as those in Scandinavia have much lower tax rates than ours.)

Speaking of titles, the title to her most recent “think” piece, “The Kids are Socialists Because Capitalism is Dickslapping the Planet”, stems from statistics that show that more than half of all millennials support some form of socialism, thus proving that we millennials may have been blessed with information at our very fingertips, yet we care more about looking up cat pics than we do researching socialist regimes such as Venezuela.

As for the entire “think” piece itself, this incoherent socialist diatribe is wrong on so many levels that trying to figure out where to start is the hardest part. Of course, perhaps the best way to start is from the very beginning, so come with me as we dissect this blatant bogosity line by line:

Capitalism doesn’t have a plan, you know. It only goes in one direction and it doesn’t care what you want.

No. By it’s very nature, capitalism needs to care about what you want because it’s about exchanging goods and services. If a business doesn’t give customers what they want, it goes out of business. It’s that simple.

The most advanced capitalist states are literally at the stage of collapse and yet we deny that perhaps the problem is capitalism.

Things may be bad, but they’re not that bad. The world is not falling apart.Everything from violent crime to armed conflicts to worldwide poverty has been on the rapid decline for decades.

Capitalism is a system that we can prove with any science is fucking the planet and yet the rich can convince most this is progress.

The planet may have problems, but overall, the environment has been improving. The world has been getting exponentially greener within the past two decades, with more trees and less air pollution.

Capitalism not only eats babies, it makes sure those babies suffer horrific and needless deaths first because suffering is less costly than care.

I’m assuming she’s referring to the infant mortality rate and how America allegedly has the “worst in the world.” This simply isn’t true. The only reason our rate is higher than other countries is because we count stillborn deaths as infant deaths. If we didn’t, our rates would be comparable to other developed countries.

Capitalism wants your parents to die long, drawn-out, painful deaths from preventable diseases because managing slow, painful death is a hugely profitable enterprise employing tens of thousands of people.

Fewer Americans are dying from preventable diseases now more than ever. Most leading causes of death such as heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, and accidents have seen a major drop within the past 40+ years. If anything, Americans are living longer and healthier lives. And you can owe that fact to America being the world leader in medical research and innovation.

Capitalism is why there are six empty houses in this country for every homeless person but thousands still freeze to death.

No. That’s because of the government-created housing bubble. Let me break this down in four easy steps:

1. The Federal Reserve cut interest rates to as low as 1% so that after inflation we had negative interest rates.

2. As a result, mortgage rates fell to an all time low.

3. Low rates caused borrowing and lending to explode, particularly in real estate. For example, commercial banks more than doubled the amount of real-estate loans they made.

4. All these low interest loans had to be extended to people with worse credit ratings and this increased the demand for homes and other real-estate assets. It should not be surprising that home prices skyrocketed.

Capitalism is why we waste 40 percent of our food while children die of starvation.

No. That’s because government regulation makes it costly and cumbersome for super markets and other businesses to donate their food, and thus they throw it all away instead.

Capitalism is why 200 species went extinct today.

First, I call bullshit on that statistic because global extinction rate estimatesvary so wildly. Plus if that stat were true, then the entire planet would be dead by the end of the year.

Furthermore, we’re seeing more animals being taken off of the endangered species list rather than added. The past decade alone has seen 19 speciesremoved from the list.

Just today, it was announced that the Yellowstone Grizzly Bear was removed from the endangered species list. The past decade alone has seen many animals removed : humpback whalesgiant pandasmanatees, and tigers, just to name a few.

Capitalism is why we’re all going to war for oil under the North Pole.

Most experts agree that both electric cars and cheap renewable energy sources will cause fossil fuel growth to halt worldwide by 2020As solar and wind energy costs decrease, fossil fuel and coal consumption is going to decrease likewise. We already have coal plants shutting down worldwide in great numbers. The free market seems to be pushing that transition just fine.

Capitalism is why your kid is going to die in a water riot.

Excuse me? Have you seen Venezuela? That socialist country is literally on the brink of collapse due to shortages of all kinds ranging from food and water to electricity.

Don’t like me using Venezuela as an example? Fine. How about California? That state is currently suffering from a drought and water shortage. But guess what? The water shortage? Totally man-made! Their government opted to empty fresh drinking water into the sea rather than provide it to their thirsty citizens. You can thank government for that, not capitalism.

Capitalism is the state religion of sociopaths.

No. Statism is the state religion of sociopaths.

If your kid is a Socialist, at least you raised a kid with a fucking heart. If you’re not a Socialist, I don’t even know where to start.

I’m not socialist because I know what Venezuela is. I doubt this stupid woman can find it on a map.

I don't think you can really say "violent crime is on the decline" anymore, especially if you're in Europe.

What does a sociology major know about economic systems?

As to '200 species' going extinct every day: As I mentioned to someone I am 'arguing' with, IF those are even happening the vast majority of them are probably bacteria which only exist in micro-environments. I also note that several species which were declared extinct have since resurfaced.

Well Economics is a subcategory of Sociology. So technically all Economists are Sociologists. Although the reverse cannot be said.

Besides Venezuela and California, let's add also Zimbabwe and....Illinois to the list. Youtube vlogger Doctor of Common Sense had posted a rant about Illinois. youtu.be/9zQPEbliL2g

Edit: Another vlogger, Styxhexenhammer666 posted a vlog about Illinois. www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAasJp…
